GET TO KNOW OUR CO-DIRECTORS

A LITTLE ABOUT SHERRY RYAN....

She's married to John (a pharmacist) and between them they have six children ranging in age from 37 to 16! They also have three grandchildren, and more on the way!

Places Sherry has lived... Des Moines, Ames, Winthrop, Independence, Cedar Rapids, Ankeny -- all in Iowa!

Sherry is currently a team leader at Candeo...a non-profit agency assisting adults with disabilities (this is one of the agencies we support through BT!). Did you know she's also been a preschool teacher and a sub-associate in the Ankeny school district. I've also heard she's decorated a house or two!

Sherry happily celebrates each year of living on June 19th! While each turn of the calendar makes her a "calendar year older", she prefers to act 35!

When asked if she could go back in time she responded that she'd go back to her college years to study harder and possibly change her major to a health career or interior design.

The funniest thing she has ever done is to push a grocery cart down the streets of Galena with stuff she bought at a going out of business sale! (Can't you just see her doing this!)

Some of Sherry's most embarrassing moments were on her 40th birthday when her friends took her out and made her wear a housedress and slippers and then took her to a restaurant or when she couldn't get through security at the airport or when her suitcase was WAY over the 50 pound limit and she had told her friends to pack LIGHT!

The most amazing moment in her life was when she saw a volcano in Hawaii within 7 miles from where she was and she could hear it.

Sherry first heard about BT through a newspaper article. She talked with Susan about it and they realized they loved the concept and wanted to be involved!

Sherry loves BT because it gives her a reason to get out of the house once a month, connect with friends and and she loves giving back to a charity...BT has enriched her life!

Sherry's words of wisdom to other women fighting frump...it all starts from within yourself. Eat healthy, exercise, take care of yourself by doing something fun and/or relaxing everyday! Get your hair done, don't dress like a slob (but I love my jeans and tennies), and put on your makeup when you go out. Don't wear old ladies clothes - no housedresses and slippers (see above embarrassing moment)!!!

Thongs to Sherry are.....something you wear on your feet, not in the crack of your butt!

Of all the things Sherry's done with BT so far the best was the first night where we were totally packed to the back wall with women that were looking for a bit of fun and seeing what we were all about. It was wild!

Sherry ended her interview by saying "I feel that in this group we have made close friends and done a wide variety of activities. I feel we have a very cohesive group and are welcoming to any newcomers. Keep 'em coming! The more the merrier! Our charities have been worthwhile projects and we are still involved in each of them in a small way, even though we have gone on to pick a new one each year."

A LITTLE ABOUT SUSAN MITCHELL...

Susan grew up in Albert City, Iowa and has been married to Jeff for 20 years, and they have one daughter, Jessie.

Places Susan has lived...Albert City, Storm Lake, Cedar Falls, Corning, Des Moines and Ankeny -- all in Iowa!

Susan is currently a teacher at DMACC. Did you know she's also been an attorney, elementary teacher, waitress, baker, and coordinator of day camps in the park, detasseler and bean walker!

Susan happily celebrates each year of living on July 27th! While each turn of the calendar makes her a "calendar year older", she prefers to act 35 (just like Sherry!)

When asked if she could go back in time she responded "I would not go back in time. I want to go forward in time - to a time when we fly around with jet packs on our backs; like George Jetson!"

Some of Susan's most embarrassing moments...she says...where to begin...there are so many to choose from...I vomited in my hands in church, while still sitting in the pew.

The most amazing moment in her life was when she saw her daughter for the first time as she was carried off the plane (adopted from Korea). She says they bonded instantly.

Susan first heard about BT through a newspaper article. While she was reading the article, the phone rang....and it was Sherry...she had read the same article, so they decided to give it a go because it sounded like fun!

Susan loves BT because she has met new friends and loves serving charities.

Susan's favorite quote is:
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Susan's words of wisdom to other women fighting frump...Choose joy! It will keep you feeling young. Feeling young is 90% of the battle.

Thongs to Susan are.....flip flops!
