GET TO KNOW....CAROL THOMPSON

Carol first heard about BT by seeing an article in the newspaper. She found out this group had picked the non-profit organization she was working for as our philanthropic project for the year and decided to check it out by herself. She was fascinated by the large number of ladies who were feeling the need to "fight frump" together!

Carol has loved working with the group on the wine fundraiser the first year, and she also enjoyed the wine tasting at Sherry's that her friend, Lori, did for the group. Funny...both involve wine!!!

Carol looks forward to more girlfriend time in BT! She likes meeting new and interesting women and participating in the many fun things that this group does. She fell away for a period of time, but she's looking forward to reconnecting! (We are glad you are back!)

Carol grew up in Ankeny! Carol's parents live here in Ankeny, as well as her two brothers and their families. Carol married her High School sweetheart and they just celebrated their 31st wedding anniversary!! (Congratulations!) Dennis and Carol have two children; Matt and Anne. Matt and his wife Jeni live in Creston and he is Dean of Student Services at Southwest Iowa Community College and she is Director of Nursing in Oncology at the hospital. They have a son, Luke, who is Nani and Papa’s favorite grandson. J Anne and her husband Chris live in Janesville, WI, and she is a District Mgr. for Maurice and he is a pilot for Sky West Airlines. They have a daughter, Alli, who is our favorite granddaughter!

Carol is currently a Comfort Consultant for Private Quarters and is recruiting new consultants (hint, hint). She hopes to promote to Group Leader with Private Quarters soon!

Carol has also been in Operations and had Administrative roles in both the corporate and non-profit world. Carol spent 11 years in Operations in the seed industry; eight with Mycogen Seeds a Dow Chemical company and three years at BASF Plant Science located in the ISU Research Park in Ames. Carol's last position in the corporate world was Manager of Administrative Services overseeing the many functions associated with running a site: Human Resources, Accounting, Employee Health and Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, Site Security, and facilities management. She has also dabbled a bit in retail as Assistant Manager for Brighton Collectibles.

When asked what the craziest thing she has ever done…that you are willing to share, Carol says..."Growing up in Ankeny, we walked everywhere (you never see that anymore!). So one evening all of us girls walked to the McDonalds parking lot and hopped in the back of Dave Walter’s truck (Kerry’s cousin!). He drove us out to “Bragman’s Hill” and took off down the hill at a high rate of speed with all of us in the back of a pickup truck. We were really lucky we didn’t all die! "

Carol's most embarrassing moment... I shared with my best friend one day that I had started taking a supplement that is supposed to improve your memory. When she asked me what is was…I couldn’t remember! I stopped taking the supplement!

Carol celebrates her birthday each year on October 21st and last year she turned the big 50! She prefers a quite celebration with family and friends.

If Carol could go back in time, the one thing she would change is that she would have pursued a business of her own much sooner. She loves the freedom!

When asked what the most amazing moment in her life has been, she responded: "Wow…only one??? I would have to say experiencing new life, so the births of our children and grandchildren."

Carol's favorite quote is: “Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.” Dr. Seuss

Carol's words of wisdom to other women fighting frump is to surround yourself with good people, give to those less fortunate and never judge others as you have not walked in their shoes.

A thong to Carol is what she wears on her feet. There was a time when it would have had a double meaning, I’ve just graduated to one meaning with age!
