NuVal System - Good and Evil

Heather, the Dietician with the Johnston HyVee shared with our group about the new NuVal system being seen on labels around the store. NuVal stands for Nutrition Value and is based on a scale from 1 to 100, with 100 being the best any product can earn.
Heather had us taste test some chips, hummus, veggies and greek yogurt.
Heather also pointed out there is a lot of great information on HyVee.com. We were provided a weekly menu suggestion, that included the grocery list...can't be much easier than that!

We then took a tour of the store to view different NuVal labels. Here's what the label look like...remember, 100 is the best you can get!

You will defintely find a lot of the high 90's and 100's in the fruit and vegetable aisle....

But hey, we all like a little sour cream on our potatoes....26, not bad...for a sour cream!

The big question of the night was how CHOCOLATE (which by the way, Nacona and I could NOT find this on the food pyramid) would be valued....

Okay, not so good...but really...2....is still better than 1, right?
But hey, we found dark chocolate for 10!!! Woo hoo!!!!

After the tour (good)...we went across the street to the Mexican restaurant (evil)....we were not checking NuVal labels there!!!
Yummy food....

And a little drinkie poo too!!!
